Staying Positive During Tough and Challenging Times

Publication Date:
November 23, 2016

Many people have been asking how to stay positive with the world seemingly struggling every day.  It is possible to develop a mindset of positive thinking and looking for the good that there is in life and in the world around us.

Positive self care: life skills to help us all keeping moving forward:

  1. Take care of yourself physically. When people get upset or overwhelmed the tendency is “to take the easy way out.” They bypass doing physical exercise in order to get some extra work done or sit on the sofa to catch up on the news. They may justify these things as being the better option, but it is important to keep moving and taking care of self both physically and emotionally.  Little shifts in mindfulness with regard to sleep, water intake, exercise and the monitoring of outside negative influences can go a long way toward managing stress and maintaining the strength to actually cope with stress in a healthier way.
  2. Be grateful for simple things. It is often easy to focus on things we do not have during challenging times, especially with the rising prices of necessities putting a huge strain on American families. It is so important for us to be grateful for what we do have.  Do you have family, friends and co-workers that you love? Do you still have a roof over your head? Are you able to go outside for a walk or read a book or watch something funny on TV? Switching from concentrating on what is wrong in our world to what is going right puts us in a state of mind where we notice goodness around us and can receive goodness from others.
  3. Get involved in your community and free activities! Support your local library, free concerts in the park, free family movie nights and go for a walks in the parks and ride the bike trails.  Some sun on your face does a world of good for your outlook! Get out of your homes and get connected with the world around you.
  4. Find a teacher, minister, friend or Hero for inspiration. Find affirmations or quotes to lift you up when you discover you are getting off track. There are so many wonderful phone and computer apps for daily inspiration from the Bible, from experts on motivation and self care! Look for one today that matches your values and use it daily for inspiration to guide you through the day!

Here are a few of my favorite quotes which might help you stay focused on the life you were created to live:

“You must realize everyone is doing the best they can within their own state of consciousness." Chopra

“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” Dwyer

“You HAVE enough, you Do ENOUGH, you ARE enough.” Sark
