If youÂ’ve been to Village Counseling Center or received our past newsletters, you may have heard of our Helping Hand program. In 2009, the partners at VCC decided that they wanted to expand the range of services they offered. Previously, only those with insurance or the ability to pay out-of-pocket were able to benefit from the expertise of our therapists. However, the partners quickly realized that there was an entire population of people who needed counseling but couldnÂ’t afford it. With the economy still struggling, many people find themselves without jobs and, therefore, without insurance. Others might have insurance, but are unable to meet their sky-high deductibles due to financial difficulties, or their policies might not cover mental health services.
Unlike so many other counseling centers that simply turn people without insurance away, the partners wanted to find a way to meet the needs of this population. The Helping Hand program was the answer. With the Helping Hand program, clients with financial struggles are still able to benefit from top-notch therapy provided by our Resident Therapists. The Resident Therapists are counselors who can provide the same excellent service youÂ’ve come to expect from VCC, but who are at a different point in the licensure process than our Staff Therapists. Our current Resident Therapists are Stephanie Britton and Mike Holland. As their many clients can surely attest, Stephanie and Mike are some of the most well-liked therapists on our staff. Our Resident Therapists will work with clients to determine a sliding scale fee that meets their needs. While itÂ’s important for every client to invest something in the therapeutic process, our Resident Therapists will help to find a reasonable fee that respects the financial hardship so many find themselves in right now. If you or someone you know could benefit from this program, please give us a call. If youÂ’re wondering exactly what this process entails, look for our next newsletter, which will include an article that explains the program in more detail.
