Location(s):

Shelly Rubenic, MA, is an intern and Helping Hands counselor at Village Counseling Center. She is training in Counseling Psychology in the Master’s program at Trinity Christian College. A former Life Coach, Shelly combines her education and experience to help clients identify and implement strategies that create personal peace and rewarding relationships. Shelly’s openness and warmth creates a counseling environment within which she and her clients work to find collaborative solutions that facilitate personal growth and positive change.

She has special interests in working with clients who are experiencing challenges with attachment disorders, depression, anxiety, low-self-esteem, parenting issues, adolescent adjustment issues, and marriage and family problems.

My job is:
a privilege. I can think of no greater gift than being able to help clients realize their value and potential in the midst of sharing in what may be the most challenging times in their lives.
The challenges of my job are:
helping clients believe there is hope in every situation, and that with time and effort, they have the power to change their lives for the better.
I help to bring new hope to people by:
helping clients realize that challenges in life and relationships are normal. Everyone experiences challenges, but we haven’t all been given the tools we need to manage them. I help clients acquire new skills, which enable them to change their lives.
I bring hope to my community by:
by helping the individuals within it become their best selves. Happy, productive individuals joining together improve communities now and for future generations. I also do volunteer work through my church and other community outreach programs.
One extraordinary little known fact about me is:
I was a professional singer, have performed in nearly every state in the US, including two performances in Carnegie Hall, and worked for the USO, performing in Germany, Sweden, Spain, and the Portuguese Islands.
Village Counseling Center is an extraordinary place to work because:
the clinical directors, counselors and staff all have a heart for others. This creates a supportive and encouraging work place where I can grow both professionally and personally.
