Dawn Auriene is a therapist at Village Counseling Center and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She also has a professional educational license with a Type 73 certification as a school social worker. She earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from East Carolina University. Dawn has over 20 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families. She has worked as a school social worker for the past 16 years focusing on children in special education with challenging emotional and behavioral disorders. She also has experience working in a variety of venues including foster care, residential treatment, and community mental health.
Dawn specializes in working with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma and utilizes play and art therapies in helping clients heal from these traumas. She has had extensive training in trauma care, sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, and grief and loss.
She also has expertise working with at risk adolescents with regards to crisis intervention, anger management, emotional regulation skills and school related issues. She believes in advocating for her clients and is experienced at helping bridge gaps between clients and schools.
Her warm and nurturing personality enables her clients to feel safe and heard. She is highly empathic and attentive to the needs of her clients. She operates from a strength-based approach, providing practical strategies to improve self-awareness, communication, and coping skills. Dawn is dedicated to providing family-centered services to strengthen individuals and support families.
